CHCH News has learned the identity of a woman who was killed during a police-involved shooting over the weekend.

Robyn Garlow was fatally shot after police responded to reports of a woman with a knife at a downtown apartment early Saturday morning.

Garlow is the mother of a 10-year-old boy who lives out-of-province with his father. It was Garlow’s own father who alerted police to the incident.

The woman’s brother-in-law says she’d been battling a drug addiction for years, but he doesn’t understand why she was killed.

According to the Special Investigations Unit, two officers responded to the call and one of them tazed Garlow in a second floor apartment unit on King Street East near Wellington Street.

Garlow’s brother-in-law says the incident shouldn’t have ended the way it did.

Hamilton police would not comment on the shooting because it’s now an SIU case.

This is the second fatal shooting by Hamilton police this year.

On April 3, 19-year-old Quinn MacDougall was shot and killed by officers, after he himself called 911. That SIU investigation is ongoing.
