Woman dead, suspect in custody after downtown Hamilton homicide: police

Police say a suspect is in custody in connection with a homicide at an apartment building in downtown Hamilton Monday evening.

Emergency crews responded shortly before 5:30 p.m. to the building on Herkimer St. between Park St. South and MacNab St. South.

A 62-year-old Hamilton woman was discovered without vital signs at the building. She was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Hamilton Police are investigating a homicide at an apartment building on Herkimer St in #HamOnt.

The victim is an adult female. One suspect is in custody.

Expect a heavy police presence in the area.

A 34-year-old Hamilton man has been arrested and charged with first degree murder.

Police say the 62-year-old victim and the suspect are known to one another, and investigators are not looking for any more suspects.

Officers say residents in the area can expect a heavy police presence.
