Woman dead after ‘suspicious’ early morning house fire in Georgetown: police

Halton police say a woman has died following a house fire in Georgetown early Wednesday morning, that investigators have now deemed suspicious.
At this time, authorities are not releasing any identifying details about the victim or why it is being considered suspicious.
Emergency crews were called around 5:20 a.m. to a home on Victoria Street, where they arrived to a home fully engulfed in flames and say it was spreading to neighbouring homes.

Police then evacuated the nearby residences while crews from the Halton Hills fire department extinguished the blaze.
No other occupants were found in the home and no further injuries were reported to police, said a spokesperson from the Halton Regional Police Service.
The smell of smoke lingered into the afternoon and damage could be seen on all sides of the home, though police have yet to determine an estimated cost for those damages.
The cause of the fire remains unknown but detectives with the Halton police’s major crime bureau are investigating the matter.
