Woman charged in attempted child abduction in Hamilton

Hamilton police are warning the public after an attempted child abduction in the city over the weekend.

Officers say the incident happened on Sunday in the area of Jackson Street West and Macnab Street South around 6:53 p.m.

It is alleged that the accused approached a four-year-old boy who was with his mother when she hugged the boy and walked away with him in her arms. The child was placed back on the ground and the suspect left after being confronted by the boy’s mother.

The child did not sustain any injuries in the incident and the suspect was arrested a short time later. Investigators say that the victim and suspect are not known to one another.

Thirty-seven-year-old Simithy Mansaray of Hamilton has been charged with abduction of a person under the age of 14.

Police say she lives in the Rymal Road area and that the photo has been released “as a matter of public safety.”
