Residents say they heard a “loud bang” Monday night shortly before a fire broke out at a home in Hamilton.

The blaze started shortly after 10 p.m. at a house located at 48 Sanford Ave. South.

Paramedics treated three people who were inside of the home at the time of the fire, and they were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Assistant Deputy Fire Chief Shawn De Jager said the fire was quickly extinguished as soon as crews arrived at the scene.

Neighbours and witnesses report hearing at least two loud bangs in the area before the blaze started.

Damage caused by the fire is estimated at $250,000.

The Office of the Fire Marshall is investigating. The cause of the fire has not been confirmed at this time.
