Welland pays tribute of fallen firefighter with flag lowering

In a heartfelt tribute, the City of Welland solemnly lowered all its flags to half-mast, paying homage to a long-serving firefighter.

Captain Craig Bowman, 47, died Sunday night from what’s being referred to as an “occupational illness.”

The city says Bowman became a member of the Welland Fire Department in 2002.

Welland fire says it will honour Bowman with a full line of duty death service. It’s currently being planned and the date has yet to be announced.

Fire Chief Adam Eckhart says he’s overwhelmed by the outpouring of support for his organization and thanks everyone for helping them through this difficult time.
