Unseasonably warm weather hits southern Ontario

People of southern Ontario were treated to a taste of summer with unseasonably warm weather this week. The average temperature for this time of year is 13 degrees, but the mercury on the thermometer this week was not only well beyond that but reaching record territory.

Wednesday’s temperature in Hamilton fell just .1 degree shy of the all-time record for that day, but Thursday was one for the books.

For April 13, the record is 26.1 degrees set in 1977. The airport reached 27.3 degrees so the record has unofficially been broken. It will be confirmed Friday morning. Another potential record high is expected for Friday as well.

While Hamilton and Niagara hit the high 20s on Thursday it was a little bit cooler on the shores of Lake Erie. That didn’t stop people in Port Dover from hitting the beach.

Winter might technically be over, the summer-like temperatures aren’t expected to stick around beyond this weekend with cooler temperatures on the way. Spring-like temperatures are expected to return next week which will be in the 10 to 15-degree range.
