Unifor strike averted after Ford makes last minute offer

The union that represents Canadian auto workers at Ford Motor Co. has reached a tentative deal with the American automaker, averting a possible strike for more than 5,000 members.
Unifor was prepared to strike Monday night until Ford made a last minute offer that extended negotiations by 24 hours.
Details of the deal haven’t been released yet.

A strike would have shut down three of Ford’s Canadian factories and closed a number of parts distribution centres.
It’s not immediately clear what impact this deal might have on the negotiations between the United Auto Workers and Ford, as well as General Motors and Stellantis in America.
Ford said Tuesday that it will continue to work collaboratively with the union to create a blueprint for the automotive industry that supports a vibrant and sustainable future in Canada.
