Truck smashes into crew working on QEW in Beamsville

A portion of the westbound QEW in Beamsville is closed after a collision between a transport truck and a highway maintenance vehicle overnight.

Police say crews were working to repair potholes in the Toronto-bound left lane of the QEW near Ontario St. when a transport truck smashed into the back of the sign truck.

Reports say the 22-year-old truck driver from Kitchener was momentarily trapped inside the cab before Lincoln firefighters worked to free him.

Police say the truck driver was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 39-year-old female worker was also taken to hospital in reportedly serious condition.

A section of westbound QEW remains closed at Victoria Ave. while Burlington OPP investigate.
