Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc says the Mounties will establish a new aerial intelligence task force to provide round-the-clock surveillance of Canada’s border using helicopters, drones, and surveillance towers.

In a rush to address American demands, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his administration announced a new strategy to protect and secure Canada’s borders.
On Dec. 17, Canada’s Public Safety Minister unveiled a $1.3 billion upgrade, which includes the establishment of a new aerial intelligence task force to provide round-the-clock surveillance.
The move comes in response to tariff threats from incoming U.S. President Donald Trump, who has expressed concerns about illegal migrants and drugs.

Officials in Ottawa say they are optimistic that the U.S. will respond positively to the initiative.

However, it remains uncertain as Trump continues to provoke Canadians with remarks about the country becoming a U.S. state and his pointed observations about the Trudeau government’s challenges.
