Judge orders return of mistakenly deported Maryland man, White House claim they lack authority

Across the border a Democratic senator says he’ll travel to El Salvador himself if a Maryland man who was mistakenly deported from the U.S. isn’t released in the next few days.

A federal judge has ruled that Kilmar Abrego Garcia should be returned to the U.S. but despite that, White House advisers repeated their claim that they lack the authority to return the Salvadoran national from his native country.

The President of El Salvador also said that he would not return Abrego Garcia, likening it to smuggling “a terrorist into the united states.”
