Alberta Premier Danielle Smith’s Trump, tariff comments spark controversy, accusations

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has never been shy about her support for Pierre Poilievre and expressed to U.S. media that the trade war may be hurting his chances to become Prime Minister.

During an Breitbart news podcast interview, Smith shared that she asked the Trump administration to put tariffs on pause until after the federal election because the tariffs were benefiting the Liberal party in the polls.

Her comments have gone viral, sparking accusations that Smith is suggesting that U.S. officials interject in Canadian politics to help the Tories, accusations that Smith’s office say are “offensive and false”.
