Trainwreck is the newest comedy from director Judd Apatow, and it’s the first of his films he didn’t write himself. The script was written by its star, Amy Schumer, the popular comedian who has rocketed onto the scene with her show Inside Amy Schumer. The film also stars Tilda Swinton, Bill Hader, John Cena, Brie Larson, Colin Quinn, and Lebron James.
Since she was a little girl, it’s been drilled into Amy’s (Schumer) head by her rapscallion of a father (COLIN QUINN of HBO’s Girls) that monogamy isn’t realistic. Now a magazine writer, Amy lives by that credo— enjoying what she feels is an uninhibited life free from stifling, boring romantic commitment—but in actuality, she’s kind of in a rut. When she finds herself starting to fall for the subject of the new article she’s writing, a charming and successful sports doctor named Aaron Conners (BILL HADER of The Skeleton Twins), Amy starts to wonder if other grown-ups, including this guy who really seems to like her, might be on to something.
The decision to direct Trainwreck was an easy one for Apatow. “I was having such a great time working with Amy, and I felt like we were in sync. It just occurred to me one day: ‘This would be a really fun movie to direct.’ I haven’t done that before. I’ve directed TV that I didn’t write, but this just seemed right.”
Trainwreck is rated 18A.
