Three legged dog found four years after disappearing from Niagara-on-the Lake home

First Published:

In Niagara-On-The-Lake a three-legged dog nicknamed “Tripod” who was lost four years ago was found earlier this week.

Ram the 6-year-old mixed-breed dog was in an accident when he was younger which led to the amputation of his leg soon after his owners took him in.

But Ram didn’t let the missing leg slow him down.

“We’ve had him following us on a four-wheeler. He’ll go 30 km an hour. His back leg goes in the middle like a tripod, so that’s his nickname, Tripod,” said his owner.

But that running ability is exactly what got Ram (Tripod) in trouble four years ago.

He went missing.

“Ram tends to run, and he took off during COVID times. He went lost, and with the Humane Society closed, it was difficult. We posted on Facebook but to no avail.”

With a little luck, Ram was found this week, roughly 50 km away in Port Colborne.

“These wonderful people in Port Colborne were doing a drywall job at a woman’s house. And the girl was gonna put Ram in the pound the next day. So he said hold off I’ll see if I can find him a foster home or something,” Lou-Anne Rochat said.

“He came home with the dog, and his wife recognized the dog from Facebook.”

It was a Facebook post Rochat made four years ago when Ram first went missing.

“That day they brought him back to the farm and it’s like he never left,” Rochat said.

“Oh he’s our dog forever, he’s back home. We plan on keeping him that way, safer with invisible fencing so he doesn’t get lost again,” Rochat said.

Now Ram the dog is back home with Rochat’s other animals, from cows to roosters to goats and geese allowing Ram to fit right in.

“I have two pet cows, Franky and Clara Belle, who come when they are called. They will cross the field to get to you. Chickens that are never eaten for meat that are for eggs, and three goats,” said Rochat.

The farm also has a pack of other dogs as well.

“It’s a menagerie, a crazy farm.”

“Davey Tale Acres, named after my dad who used to tell lots of stories or tales,” said Rochat.

Rochat said she still has no idea where Ram has been the past few years only that he was picked up on the side of the road four years ago.
