Thorold man faces multiple firearm charges after allegedly pistol-whipping man

A Thorold man is facing multiple firearm-related charges after he allegedly pistol-whipped a man and threatened a woman Sunday morning.

Niagara police say they responded to a report of an assault shortly before 10 a.m. in the area of Pine Street North and Albert Street West in Thorold.

Investigators say a man pistol-whipped another man and threatened to do the same to a woman.

Detectives identified a suspect and carried out a search warrant. Police seized a shotgun, ammunition and two airsoft handguns.

Officers arrested and charged 39-year-old Jonathan Barry with nine firearm-related offences, including two counts of assault with a weapon and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Barry was held in custody pending a bail hearing that is expected to take place Monday in a St. Catharines courthouse.
