The beloved Village Bakery Dundas will be closing its doors after 25 years of providing baked goods for all occasions to town residents.

Owner Susan Preston will be closing the business at the end of the month as she enters into retirement.

The bakery started as a kitchen-table effort to bake and sell Christmas goodies. It would soon outgrow the confines of Preston’s own kitchen and take its own place in a 400 square foot location and ultimately to the 2200 square foot location in the middle of the town.

That middle-of-town location would become the site of one of Dundas’ largest fires in history, leading the bakery to its final home in the historic Old Post Office.

The Village Bakery has become a pillar in celebrations throughout the town. From birthdays, to weddings, fundraising events and the famous Canada Day cake that fed 800 people, events throughout Dundas have been marked by the presence of the Bakery for the past 25 years.

In a statement made on facebook, Preston says bakers “have baked our hearts out getting ready for these last two weeks so we hope you are able to get your favourite goodies if only to squirrel them away to savour at a later date”.

Lovers of Village Bakery Dundas will have until July 29 to grab their favourite goodies. The Village Catering company also run by Preston will continue serving customers after the bakery closes its doors.
