‘The Barbie Heist’: Movie posters stolen from Oakville movie theatre

First Published:

An Oakville theatre has created a humorous movie trailer-like video showing a man stealing its film posters in hopes that he will return them.

Film.ca shared the video containing security footage of a man taking the posters for Barbie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One from its display cases around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

The video of the incident dubbed the “Barbie Heist” then shows the man opting to not steal posters for Oppenheimer and Haunted Mansion.

Film.ca says the estimated value of the stolen posters is $75.

The theft was not reported to Halton police as the theatre says it did not believe the incident was a “good use of the police’s time.”

It says the goals of the video are to get the posters back, “send a message that we are tired of being targeted” and not shy away from calling out those who steal from them.

Last year, Halton police charged two Toronto men accused of slashing screens at the same Film.ca movie theatre on Feb. 23, 2022.

Film.ca additionally says that though they have opted to not show the man’s face in the video, they do have a high-resolution photo should he not return the posters.

The man is seen wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, blue shorts and green Crocs. He was last seen fleeing the scene in a black hatchback.

Anyone with information regarding this incident or who has seen the suspect is asked to contact Film.ca.
