Teen cyclist dies following collision in St. Catharines

Police say a 16-year-old boy has died as the result of a collision in St. Catharines Tuesday evening.

According to responding officers, a cyclist and a Lincoln Aviator vehicle collided in the area of Glendale Avenue and Glengarry Road shortly before 7 p.m.

Niagara EMS and fire crews assisted in treating the teenage victim, who was found in critical condition at the scene.

He was transported to an out of region hospital for specialized treatment, but later died.

The 45-year-old woman driving the vehicle involved in the crash was not physically injured.

Roads in the area were closed while an initial investigation took place, but all have since reopened.

Detectives with the Niagara police detachment are investigating the cause of the crash, and are asking anyone who may have information to contact them at 905-688-4111 option 3, extension 1009129.
