Supercrawl takes over Hamilton’s downtown core this weekend

First Published:

Hamilton’s biggest annual festival has kicked off.

The three-day event marks the annual Supercrawl street festival, in which live music, food trucks and street vendors take over the roadway for Hamilton’s biggest event of the year.

The festival will run from Friday to Sunday evening and will include several musical performances, food trucks and dozens of art displays and fixtures.

Some of the bigger names scheduled to play at this year include Matt Andersen, Explosions in the Sky and The Sadies.

The festival’s director, Tim Potocic, says it’s a pleasure to curate the bands and says it’s something the organizers look forward to doing each year.

“We started this festival to spotlight creative talent and it’s always just so great to be able to bring this weekend to life every year. It’s something we look to just as much as audiences do. And none of it would be possible without the support of our partners and, of course, our incredible creative community. ”

As the festival carries out, there will be several important road closures that travellers should make note of.

James Street North will be closed between King and Strachan streets from Sept. 12 at 1:30 a.m. to Sept. 16 at 5 a.m.

York Boulevard will be closed between Bay and Hughson streets from Sept. 12 at 7 p.m. to Sept. 16 at 5 a.m.
