Students perform concert with Hamilton Music Collective

Students at St. Lawrence Catholic Elementary School in Hamilton put on a live concert on Monday with the help of the Hamilton Music Collective (HMC). The students prepared for the show with free music lessons sponsored by HMC’s An Instrument for Every Child program.
HMC Founder Astrid Hepner said, “We bring our instructors into currently 16 inner city schools and community centres. We provide children with free instruction, we provide them with free instruments on a free loan basis.” One of the schools which is part of the program is St. Lawrence Catholic Elementary School.

The students in grades one and two have been practicing all year leading up to the show. The grade one’s focused on singing while grade two students got to pick up an instrument.
The Hamilton Music Collective says since the An Instrument for Every Child program started in 2010, more than 9,000 children have benefited from it. HMC is also celebrating its 15th anniversary.
