The Stoney Creek Community Food Bank unexpectedly closed its doors last month at the Saltfleet Community Centre. City officials said the structural integrity of the building had been compromised.

The food bank has found a new, temporary home at the back of the Stoney Creek Municipal Service Centre and is set to open on Wednesday, Apr. 12.

While the location is temporary, organizers say the need is ongoing and they’re grateful to provide essential support right now. Volunteers were hard at work Tuesday morning doing what the Stoney Creek Community Food Bank has done since 1991.

The city says investigations to determine the next steps at the Saltfleet Community Centre are ongoing and will continue this week.

The food bank says the quick transition to a new location was extremely important because there are a lot of people in the community who rely on the service. Volunteers say they’re proud to do the work and say they feed around 25 to 40 people each day.
