The St. Catharines hospital is set to be renamed following a “transformational” $15-million donation to the healthcare facility.
Niagara Health says the staggering donation from Angela Marotta and Melissa Marotta-Paolicelli will “significantly impact the future of care” at the hospital.
The foundation says that in recognition of the gift, the site will now be known as the Marotta Family Hospital.
President and CEO of the Niagara Health Foundation, Andrea Scott, says it’s a great way to recognize the family. “I think for years to come, people will benefit from this donation in St. Catharines and Niagara.”
“To see their name on the building will just be such a reminder of why we have such great care here,” she added.
This is just the latest donation from the Marotta family across the healthcare, education and non-profit sectors across Niagara.

In April 2023, the family donated $10-million to the “It’s Our Future” campaign supporting the new South Niagara Hospital.
“Having such a close connection to the Niagara region, as a family, we know the positive impact this donation will have on the health and well-being of the community,” said Angela and Melissa.
“This beautiful hospital plays a crucial role in providing essential healthcare services, and it is an honour for our family to be able to give back in this way as it represents what is most important to us – the health and well-being of family and the ones you care about.”
The Marotta family has owned the Solmar Development Corporation for over 30 years that operates throughout the Greater Toronto Area and Niagara-on-the-Lake. Angela and Melissa also co-founded Two Sisters Vineyard and the upcoming Stone Eagle Winery.

The St. Catharines hospital first opened its doors in March 2013 and is home to centres in Cancer Care, Cardiac Care, Kidney Care, Mental Health Services and Women & Babies health.
The opening of the site meant that residents in Niagara no longer had to travel out-of-region for a number of treatments, including in cancer, cardiology and neonatal care.
