The Sisters in Spirit called for the government of Canada and Manitoba to search a landfill where investigators believe the remains of two Indigenous women may be located.
After the walk, community members stuck the red dresses on the statue of Queen Victoria.
The search is estimated to cost about $184 million, the Federal Crown Indigenous relations minister didn’t commit to put up that cost but the federal government is putting $740,000 toward further assessing the feasibility of searching the Winnipeg-area landfill for the remains of those two First Nations women.
