Man killed on Red Hill Valley Parkway last week drove stolen car: police

First Published:

Hamilton police say the man killed in last Tuesday’s fatal pedestrian collision on the Red Hill Valley Parkway was driving a stolen vehicle before being struck.

Const. Indy Bharaj says the collision happened around 2 a.m. on Nov. 28 when a man got out of his Honda Civic and attempted to walk across northbound traffic.

He was struck by a tractor trailer and pronounced dead at the scene, with the driver of the tractor trailer remaining at the scene and fully cooperating with investigators.

Police have now identified the deceased as a 35-year-old man from Waterloo.

Officers say the Honda Civic he was driving was reportedly stolen from Kitchener earlier that evening before it ran out of gas, causing him to get out of the vehicle.

The Red Hill Valley Parkway was closed northbound at Barton Street East and southbound at the QEW after police found the abandoned vehicle.

Motorists were also unable to merge onto the Red Hill Valley Parkway from the QEW.

That portion of the Red Hill Valley Parkway reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the collision reconstruction unit at 905-546-4753 or reconunit@hamiltonpolice.ca
