‘No threat to public safety’ after RCMP called out to Caledonia residence

First Published:

“There is no threat to public safety,” Mounties say, after a home in Caledonia was the scene of a heavy police presence yesterday.

The federal police department called the incident an “ongoing investigation” and says it cannot provide any more details into what happened.

A newly built subdivision off of McClung Road was the scene of a heavy police presence on Tuesday as Mounties probed the neighbourhood with armed officers and K-9 units.

Officers narrowed in on a home near Basswood Crescent and Lilac Circle around 6 p.m.

One neighbour says that their 29-year-old daughter was visiting one of the homes that was searched by the force, and adds that she is still trying to get a hold of her.

Another neighbour says that when they asked an on-scene officer what was taking place, they were told that there was “no real problem” and that the officers were executing a search warrant.

An OPP spokesperson said that none of their officers were sent to the scene and that they weren’t aware of any RCMP operations taking place in the area, however Niagara police confirmed Wednesday morning that some of their officers were on the scene.

“There is no known ongoing threat to public safety and more information should be forth coming from the RCMP,” a Niagara police spokesperson said in an email statement.
