Putin calls for solutions to stop “tragedy” in Ukraine

The world has been gripped by the war in Gaza, but before the October 7th attacks, another war took global focus – the war in Ukraine.

This week the man behind the Russian invasion made a surprising comment.

Ukrainian marines are maintaining a bridgehead on the east bank of the Dnipro river, engaged in fierce fighting with Russian troops – pushing to retake parts of the country after Russia’s invasion almost two years ago.

But the frontline has barely moved in a year, and a top general in Ukraine has described the war as a stalemate.

The man behind the invasion, Russian President Vladimir Putin, drew attention this week with his comments calling the war a tragedy and suggesting Russia was open to peace talks.
