A demonstration took place at Eastgate Square in Hamilton on Saturday, where a small group of people gathered to urge the Ford government to reallocate funds from highways to health care.
Lucy Morton has been a nurse for over 40 years and she says the care people are receiving has changed.
“Nursing has now become a business, and that business is you get in and you get out. Here is what you can do, and if not, you push it to the families to do it.”
Lucy and other demonstrators urged the government to prioritize funding for healthcare over new infrastructure projects like Highway 413 and the Bradford bypass.
Event organizer Lucia Iannantuono stated, “Instead of spending $28 billion on highways, let’s spend that money on healthcare.”
While the Ford government has said they are hiring nurses and spending billions on health care Hamilton MPP Sandy Shaw says,
“That’s bunk. The Doug Ford government can say all they want, but the evidence is clear -people wait hours in the emergency and I think Hamilton has the longest wait times, the second longest in the province.”
There are many other rallies taking place over the weekend including Burlington, Mississauga, and Fort Erie on Sunday afternoon.
