Pope Francis names Archbishop of Toronto one of 21 new cardinals

Pope Francis has named the Archbishop of Toronto as one of 21 new cardinals.

53-year-old Archbishop Francis Leo has served as Archbishop of Toronto since March 2023, and he is the lone new cardinal from North America.

Leo issued a statement saying he is humbled and honoured to receive the appointment and will continue in his primary role in Toronto.

The new cardinals will get their red hats at a ceremony, known as a consistory, on December 8th.
