Police search for suspect after Wainfleet convenience store robbed

Niagara police are searching for one suspect after a convenience store in Wainfleet was robbed at gunpoint Friday morning.

Police say the incident happened around 3 a.m. at a 24-hour convenience store on Regional Road 24 near Regional Road 27.

The employee told police that a lone male suspect showed a handgun while entering the store and demanded cash and cigarettes.

The suspect fired a single shot into the ceiling of the store during the confrontation but the employee was not physically injured.

Police say the suspect left and got into a grey coloured SUV with a hood scoop and sunroof, which was last seen traveling northbound on Regional Road 24.

The suspect is described as a white man, 30 t0 40 years of age, approximately five-foot-ten with a heavy build. He was last seen wearing a black jacket or hoodie and blue jeans.

Residences and businesses in the area with security cameras are encouraged to check their footage for any suspicious activity.
