Police say no sign of violence before Edmonton officers fatally shot

Edmonton Police Service has confirmed a 16-year-old boy shot and killed two constables who were responding to a domestic violence call at an apartment complex early Thursday morning.
The officers have been identified as Const. Travis Jordan, 35, and Const. Brett Ryan, 30.
Investigators say a 55-year-old female complainant met the two constables when they arrived at the complex and escorted them to where she lived, along with her 73-year-old male partner and their 16-year-old son.
Police say the teen shot the two officers multiple times, immediately incapacitating them. The mother attempted to disarm her son, but he shot and wounded her before fatally shooting himself. The father was not injured during the shootings.
They say there was no indication the call was high risk or dangerous or that the teen had a gun.

Officers also say that neither of the constables discharged their firearm.
Emergency crews transported the officers to hospital, where they were both pronounced dead.
The 55-year-old complainant is in hospital in serious but stable condition.
Police say the 16-year-old suspect died in their presence and had no criminal record or outstanding warrants but was known to them through a previous mental health call.
Autopsies for both officers will be conducted this weekend, while the autopsy for the suspect is scheduled for Wednesday.
