Police say man confesses to murder

Hamilton Police have made an arrest in the city’s ninth homicide and have identified the boy who was stabbed to death as 17 year old Joshua Leo. Police say the person responsible for his death turned himself in to authorities.

Eighteen year old Dawson Farr of Hamilton admitted to being responsible for Joshua Leo’s death police say, and today, he was charged.

Joshua Leo turned 17 just a couple of months ago. His family and friends are reeling with grief. Taking to social media to share their memories of a young man taken too soon.

Leo was stabbed in the chest on Friday. Police say Leo and a friend were meeting someone at Brueville park, in a neighbourhood close to Limeridge Mall. The person they were meeting up with brought another man with him, and as the four of them were sitting in a white hatchback, Leo and his friend were stabbed. That’s when another friend of the victims came to help. Police say the two attackers ran away to a getaway vehicle, a grey sedan.

Police found the getaway vehicle and seized it. The driver of the car was identified and police say he will not face any charges.

However, 18 year old Dawson Farr has been charged with manslaughter and assault with a weapon. He appeared at John Sopinka Court House via video today, and will be before the courts again tomorrow morning.

The victims sister, Michaella leo has created a Gofundme page, writing in part “My brother was an amazing person and had the biggest heart. He constantly just looked out for others and wanted to make everyone else happy. Josh did not deserve this, at 17 years old this was not his time to go…”

Other friends saying the young man had a heart of gold, always wanting to make people laugh.

Leo’s mother said that funeral arrangements are being made, the family overwhelmed with grief.

Police are still looking for one other person involved. Police believe there were two attackers. Josh’s friend who was also stabbed on Friday is expected to survive.

Not confirming which school the teen attended, the whole community shaken by this tragic loss.
