Police are investigating the suspicious death of an inmate at the Niagara Detention Centre last weekend.

Emergency crews responded around 6:30 a.m. Saturday to the prison in Thorold where they found a 52-year-old male inmate without vital signs.

Paramedics provided first aid and CPR before the man was pronounced dead.

Homicide detectives say there is no information to suggest there is a risk to the public.
