Police investigate multiple shootings in same evening in Hamilton

Hamilton Police are asking for help from members of the public after two separate shooting incidents happened Thursday night in the city.
The first one took place at around 7 p.m. in the area of Purnell Dr. in the Gilbert neighbourhood on the mountain.
Officers arrived on scene and secured the area but the suspects had already fled.
An initial investigation determined that a shooting had taken place but police believe this to be a targeted incident. There is no threat to the public.
No injuries were reported to police and checks at local hospitals did not uncover any related victims.
The investigation has been taken over by the Division Three Criminal Investigation Branch and detectives are appealing to area residents to check their security cameras between the hours of 6:50 p.m. and 7:10 p.m. for any suspicious activity.
Police also encourage drivers in the area at the time of the shooting to check their dash camera footage.

The second shooting happened about three hours later in the area of Minto Ave. and Barton St. East.
Officers went to the scene and confirmed that a home in the area had been shot at, but none of the occupants of the home were injured.
Police immediately searched the area and two people were taken into custody. A firearm was recovered at the scene.
At this time the shooting is believed to be a targeted incident and there is no further risk to public safety.
Investigators are appealing to residents of the area to check their surveillance cameras for any suspicious activity around the time of the shooting.
