Police are investigating a hate-motivated incident in Niagara-on-the-Lake where a rainbow crosswalk was vandalized by a person on an ATV.

Sometime between the morning of May 30 and the late afternoon of June 1, an individual damaged a rainbow crosswalk at the intersection of Niagara Stone Rd. and Anderson Ln.

The rainbow crosswalk was installed to show support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month in June.

Niagara Regional Police say they received a video showing a shirtless man riding an ATV and intentionally doing burnouts on top of the crosswalk.

The suspect is described as a White man with a slim build. He was wearing a black full-face helmet, pink shorts, tall black socks and white Crocs shoes.

The ATV is described as dark coloured, possibly green, and the right rear tail light may not be working.

Officers are investigating this matter as being potentially hate-motivated.

Residents or businesses in the area are asked to look at their security camera footage for any suspicious activity between May 30 at 7 a.m. and June 1 at 5:47 p.m.

Anyone who may know who is responsible is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009408, reference incident #23-60056.
