Police charge piano teacher in Burlington, Hamilton with sexual assault

Halton police say they have laid charges against a 61-year-old piano teacher after he allegedly sexually assaulted a girl who was learning to play the instrument at a Burlington studio where he is employed.

On Monday, 61-year-old Frank Dubicki of Hamilton was arrested and charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.

Steve Long, the president of Long & McQuade, tells CHCH News they immediately contacted police after receiving a report of “inappropriate behaviour” from a student last month.

As soon as the alleged incident was brought to their attention, Long says the piano instructor stopped teaching at the studio.

Long noted that music teachers are not actually employees of the studio, they’re independent contractors who teach in Long & McQuade rooms or spaces. In those cases, a background check must be completed.

Police say Dubicki was previously employed at The Music Stand school in Hamilton and the Ontario Conservatory of Music in Woodbridge.

The Music Stand owner Kazimierz Chrapka told CHCH News that Dubicki worked at both studios in Hamilton.

Chrapka says Dubicki was fired two or three years ago due to his methods of teaching piano.

Investigators believe there may be more victims related to the accused.

The president of Long & Mcquade said a student reported inappropriate behaviour and Long & Mcquade called the police right away.

Dubicki was held in custody pending a bail hearing and police believe there may be additional victims.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Halton police’s child abuse and sexual assault unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970.
