Police arrest Hamilton tutor following report of sexual assault

Hamilton police have arrested a 34-year-old man following an investigation into an alleged sexual assault by a tutor.

Police say a young person’s family hired the suspect as a tutor after finding an advertisement for his services posted on Kijiji.

The young person later reported being allegedly sexually assaulted by the suspect.

After an investigation, Daniel Picone of Hamilton has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference, and he is expected to appear in court in December.

Picone has a history of being a post-secondary educator, and is a former staff member at McMaster University.

A spokesperson for McMaster has confirmed that Picone has not been employed at the university since 2021.

Officers suspect that there may be more victims related to this case.

Anyone with information is encouraged to come forward, with police reminding the public that there is no statute of limitations for sexual offences, and offenders can be prosecuted well after the date of the offence.
