Plane makes emergency landing on Highway 407: OPP

Ontario Provincial Police says a small plane made an emergency landing on Highway 407 in Markham Wednesday morning.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the plane was in the air for only a few minutes before it encountered some mechanical issues and was forced to attempt a landing on the highway.

The plane safely landed in the eastbound lanes near Woodbine Ave. shortly before 11 a.m.

Police say the plane left the Buttonville airport for its maiden voyage after undergoing an inspection.

Schmidt says there were two people on board, an instructor and a pilot. Both passengers were unharmed during the incident.

The airplane did not sustain any damages.

Police say it will be towed off the highway and undergo an investigation to determine the cause of the malfunction.
