The eastbound lanes of the Lincoln M. Alexander Parkway a between Upper Wentworth and Upper James streets have re-opened following a serious overnight collision Monday that sent two people to hospital.

Hamilton police arrived around 1:30 a.m. to find one vehicle engulfed in flames and a second vehicle flipped onto its roof.

Investigators say a 16-year-old boy driving a 2023 Mercedes YCG was speeding when it collided with a 2022 Lexus IS, which rolled several times before coming to rest. The Mercedes flipped onto its roof nearly 150 metres from the Lexus.

Officers say the 24-year-old man driving the Lexus was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The 16-year-old G2 driver of the Mercedes and his passenger sustained minor injuries.

The Linc was initially closed in both directions between Upper Wentworth and Upper James streets but has since re-opened.
