Hamilton has a pretty cool connection to what will soon be the world’s largest cruise ship.
A local company is constructing a portion of the ship’s underwater stage here in the city while the actual ship is being built in Finland.
“Icon of the Seas” measures 1,198 feet long and can carry 7,600 guests, with 20 decks and seven swimming pools.

A special feature of the ship is called the AquaDome, with a spectacular water show, a 55-foot waterfall, and 220-degree views.
The underwater part of the stage is being built by a Hamilton company that handles specialty manufacturing. They are contracted for three Icon ships currently being built.
A vertical support beam measuring 22 feet high is going to be painted white, then taken apart, put in a box, shipped to Finland, and then the crew there will put the whole thing back together again and put it on the ship.

The company’s installation manager Robert Lemieux is in Finland right now, overseeing the process.
When it’s all done, passengers won’t see any of this Hamilton steel, they will be experiencing a one of a kind water show in the AquaDome. “Icon of the Seas” is scheduled to set sail next year.
