Overnight fire in Hamilton causes $150K in damages to property, scrap vehicles

The Hamilton Fire Department responded to an overnight fire that caused around $150,000 in damages to scrap vehicles and the property.

Fire crews responded to reports of fire behind the homes on Mahoney Ave. shortly after 2 a.m. Friday.

Crews say they found several scrap vehicles and trucks on fire in the yard on 401 Parkdale Ave. North.

Due to the size and layout of the area, additional resources were called and the alarm was upgraded.

Upon arrival, crews immediately began controlling and extinguishing the fire to prevent it spreading further.

Firefighters say one of the homes backyard fence and garage had already caught fire.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and no physical injuries were reported.

Firefighters are now working to ensure hot spots within the area of the vehicles are extinguished.
