The Town of Oakville and its outside workers have reached a tentative agreement, with services possibly resuming early next week.

CUPE Local 136, the union representing outside workers and facility operators, reached a tentative agreement with the town early Friday morning.

The union and Oakville Town Council are expected to vote on the ratification of the agreement on Saturday.

If the vote passes, town services such as leash free dog parks could open as early as noon on Sunday.

Community centres and arenas can resume full service on Monday, along with loose leaf collection on residential roads.

Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Oakville Jane Clohecy says the town looks forward to resuming services and welcoming residents back into facilities soon.

“I am pleased that the bargaining teams were able to reach a tentative agreement. I want to thank both teams for their considerable effort that led to this positive outcome for our staff and community,” Clohecy said.

“I also want to thank our residents for your ongoing patience throughout the labour disruption. I know it has not been easy for you or your family.”
