Ontario reports 939 new COVID-19 cases, five new deaths

Ontario is reporting 939 new cases of COVID-19 and five new deaths.
Friday’s numbers are a new record for daily case increase in the province.
The previous record of 797 new cases was set on Thursday.
The province completed nearly 45,000 tests, while another 58,173 tests are backlogged and remain “under investigation.”
Another 724 cases have been marked as resolved and the total number of deaths is 2,997.
According to provincial figures, there are 225 people in hospital with COVID-19. That’s an increase of 19 people from the previous day.
Of those, 47 are in ICU and 29 of those are on ventilators.
Here’s how the numbers break down in our region:
Hamilton: 28 new cases, 129 active cases
Halton: 59 new cases, 187 active cases
Niagara: 9 new cases, 111 active cases
Haldimand-Norfolk: 1 new case, 5 active cases
Brant: 0 new cases, 7 active cases
Meanwhile, a COVID-19 outbreak at SpinCo in downtown Hamilton has now been linked to 20 cases of COVID-19.
Public health says 20 of those cases are patrons and one is a staff member.
