Ontario reports 478 new cases of COVID-19, three new deaths

Ontario is reporting 478 new cases of COVID-19 and three new deaths.

This is the highest daily new case count reported in the province since early May.

About 70 per cent of the new cases were reported in Toronto, Peel and Ottawa, according to numbers from Minister of Health Christine Elliott.

The province is reporting 51 new cases of COVID-19 at schools. Of those, 26 are in students, seven are in staff and 18 have not been identified.

Another 196 cases have been marked as resolved.

Overall, Ontario has seen 47,752 cases of COVID-19, with almost 87 per cent resolved.

There are 3,578 active cases of the virus in the province.

Hospitalizations now sit at 82, with 24 of those patients in ICU and 11 of those on a ventilator.

 

Here’s how the numbers break down in our region:

Haldimand-Norfolk: 0 new cases, 12 active cases

Brant: 0 new cases, 10 active cases

Niagara:  7 new cases, 42 active cases

Halton: 19 new cases, 141 active cases

Hamilton: 19 new cases, 71 active cases

In Halton, ten of the new cases and 93 of the active cases are in Oakville, according to Halton Region Public Health.

Niagara Region is reporting an outbreak at two healthcare facilities: Deer Park Villa in Grimsby and United Mennonite Home in Lincoln.
