Ontario reports 1,038 COVID-19 cases, 44 deaths

Ontario reported 1,038 cases of COVID-19 and 44 deaths on Thursday.

The results come as the province completed 56,165 tests. The reported positivity rate, which takes into account the date tests were performed, is 2.2 per cent.

The province says 12,383 vaccine doses were administered on Wednesday. There are 205,802 people who have received both required vaccine doses and are fully vaccinated.

Another 1,277 cases were marked as resolved.

Hamilton

  • 9,965 total cases — up 46 from Wednesday
  • 9,248 resolved cases
  • 290 active cases
  • 277 deaths
  • 26,082 vaccine doses given

Outbreaks have been declared at two Hamilton schools.

St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Elementary School is reporting five cases. One student and four staff members have tested positive for the virus. The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board says the school will close on Friday.

An outbreak has also been declared at A.M. Cunningham Elementary School, where two student cases have been reported.

Halton

  • 9,138 total cases — up 45 from Wednesday
  • 8,696 resolved cases
  • 253 active cases
  • 189 deaths — up four from Wednesday
  • 18,714 vaccine doses given

Niagara

  • 8,402 total cases — up three from Wednesday
  • 7,752 resolved cases
  • 287 active cases
  • 363 deaths — up one from Wednesday
  • 8,694 vaccine doses given

Brant

  • 1,414 total cases — up four from Wednesday
  • 1,373 resolved cases
  • 29 active cases
  • 12 deaths
  • 0 in hospital
  • 4,539 vaccine doses given; 1,914 people fully vaccinated

Haldimand-Norfolk

  • 1,385 total cases — up one from Wednesday
  • 1,330 resolved cases
  • 11 active cases
  • 39 deaths
  • 2,865 vaccine doses given; 1,187 people fully vaccinated

Six Nations (last updated Wednesday)

  • 243 total cases
  • 198 resolved cases
  • 42 active cases
  • 3 deaths

The number of patients hospitalized with COVID-19 is 758, which is up from the 719 reported on Wednesday.

There are 277 people in intensive care, which is down from the day before, and 192 of them are on ventilators.

The death toll is now 6,773 people.

The province says there are 348 confirmed cases of the U.K. variant of the virus.

There are ten confirmed cases of the South African variant and one case of the Brazilian variant.
