Officer facing new charge in Sammy Yatim case

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit has decided to lay a new charge against the Toronto police officer charged with killing Sammy Yatim.

Constable James Forcillo is already facing a charge of second-degree murder in the shooting death of Yatim on a TTC streetcar last July.

Today, he’ll have an attempted murder charge added to that. According to Forcillo’s lawyer, the crown is seeking a fallback position if the trial jury finds there is not enough evidence to convict him of murder.
