The town of Oakville announced last week that it has purchased a northwest property for $8.4 million to expand the town’s parkland system.

The purchased property is located on 2026 Lower Base Line, formerly used as a private Italian club for the last four decades.

It is about 110 acres of mostly wooded ravine lands that Oakville says will make a great new park.

The purchase also included a 4,200 square-foot facility with a commercial kitchen, outdoor pool, and soccer fields.

“Oakville is recognized for its beautiful parks and open spaces across town and makes Oakville more livable, according to residents,” says Mayor Rob Burton.

“Council is pleased that we have been able to acquire this property to secure more natural space for residents to enjoy and to ensure that our community continues to thrive.”

The town says they will explore new programs for the space over the coming year.
