Oakville man charged after hateful slurs, images found on buildings

First Published:

An Oakville man is facing multiple charges after several hateful messages and images were found on buildings throughout the town.

Halton police say they have spent months investigating a series of anti-LGBTQIA2S+ messages and slurs spray painted onto buildings, as well as imagery such as swastikas carved into windows and mirrors.

The incidents happened at two churches, a public library, a public school and a local business.

On Tuesday, officers arrested 28-year-old Neil Jensen. He has been charged with six counts of mischief under $5,000, uttering death threats and eight counts of failing to comply with a release order.

Jensen was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police are investigating the incidents as hate crimes as they are believed to have been motivated by bias, prejudice or hate.

Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact police at 905-825-4777 ext. 2216.
