Police say no one was injured in a fire at an encampment near Hamilton City Hall early Thursday morning.

First responders were called around 3:48 a.m. to Peace Park on the northeast corner of Hunter Street West and Bay Street South.

Emergency crews arrived minutes later to find a large fire in the middle of the park.

Hamilton police evacuated people inside of a few other tents in the area.

A park bench and light pole at the park were damaged, as well as personal property in shopping carts.

Officers say the City of Hamilton has been notified about the damages and for cleanup.
