A weekend blaze tore through a new housing development in Burlington on Saturday, destroying at least eight homes under construction.

Fire crews were called to the scene on Koenig Rd. around 3 a.m. for reports of a fire.

Emergency responders arrived to find a fully involved house fire that had spread to surrounding homes due to the wind.

At least eight homes were destroyed in the flames and nearby residents were evacuated.

The area had some new homes under construction and others that were occupied at the time.

No injuries have been reported and the Ontario Fire Marshall has launched an investigation.
