No Canadian airline fleets operate the Boeing 737-9 Max

First Published:

No Canadian airline fleets operate the Boeing 737-9 Max, a plane which was recently grounded nationwide across the U.S.

U.S. regulators grounded the specific aircraft following a recent in-air blowout Alaska Airlines suffered Friday.

Air Canada, WestJet, Flair Airlines and Lynx Air have all confirmed that they do not operate any Boeing 737-9 Max jetliners, while Porter Air doesn’t run any Boeing planes at all.

Boeing only has three versions of its Max variant: the Max 8, the Max 9 and the Max 10.

Of the three, Air Canada says its 40 aircraft are all 737-8 Max series, all of which have different mid-cabin exit door layouts compared to the Max 9.

Reports say that a 737-9 Max aircraft being operated by Alaska Airlines flight blew out a window shortly after its takeoff Friday.

The ensuing blowout left a gaping hole which took part of the plane’s fuselage with it, forcing the aircrew and all 174 of its passengers to don their emergency oxygen masks.

The plane was landed safely, but the FAA subsequently grounded all Max 9 models.
